James has worked for the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers in Washington, DC since January, 1997. He is a Geographic Information Systems Specialist contracted to the the Cultural Resources Geographic Information Services (CRGIS) of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS). In his position at CRGIS James works closely with U.S. National Parks, state historic preservation offices and other government and private agencies to apply GIS, remote sensing and other technologies to the conservation, monitoringa and evaluation of cultural, historic and archeological resources. He is also responsible for developing, coordinating, and teaching at, GPS field schools held at various sites around the U.S. James also serves on the NPS Remote Sensing Subcommittee
In addition James has taught GIS courses at The University of Maryland Baltimore County and the University of Maryland College Park.
James attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography/Certificate in Cartography in December, 1996.
Previous to that James and his wife lived in Key West, FL where he was a charter boat captain and SCUBA diving instructor.
